Blue Energy President travels to UK, and other news
It is shaping up to be a banner year for Blue Energy Canada and ocean-based energy in general, based on recent events. Please read below for more details.
• Blue Energy CEO travels to UK, talks with DTI, others
Blue Energy President & CEO Martin Burger traveled recently to London for meetings with key contacts in the UK's emerging tidal energy sector. Mr. Burger met with representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry, the engineering firm Black and Veatch, marine manufacturing representatives, and others. Mr. Burger describes it as a very productive and encouraging trip in which he discussed various opportunities arising from the commitment of the UK to seed tidal energy projects and initiate ocean energy industry activity.
• Blue Energy participates in first-ever 'Ocean Energy' conference in Vancouver
Blue Energy personnel participated in, and contributed to the first-ever 'Ocean Energy' conference held in Vancouver recently. Hosted by the Society for Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME), the conference featured presentations that confirmed the enormous potential of tidal energy in British Columbia and worldwide.
The 80-plus conference attendees also discussed the commitment "to promote tidal energy" announced by the British Columbia government in the recent Speech from the Throne and spin-off benefits of ocean energy with respect to the Kyoto Protocol, now required under international law.
• Blue Energy joins 'Ocean Renewable Energy Group' (OREG)
Blue Energy has become a full member of the Ocean Renewable Energy Group (OREG), a newly-formed industry association working to help advance various renewable ocean energies in British Columbia, Canada and internationally.
Following the first meeting one year ago, OREG has consistently gained credibility, attracting members and supporters from business, government and academia. To find out more about OREG, go to www.oreg.ca.
